NDLEA Arrests Long-Wanted Drug Trafficker After 15 Years

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced the arrest of Uzoma Valentin Ilomuanya, a 58-year-old fugitive drug lord, after a 15-year pursuit. His apprehension occurred in Lagos on February 23, 2026, as confirmed by Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy at the NDLEA.

Brig Gen Moham Buba Marwa (Rtd), the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, described this arrest as a major milestone in the agency's ongoing offensive against organized drug networks. Ilomuanya's criminal history includes a first arrest in the United Kingdom in 2003 for drug trafficking, resulting in a nine-year prison sentence, although he was released after serving two years following an appeal.

He later absconded after being granted bail in Nigeria. This latest arrest is part of the NDLEA's broader crackdown on high-profile drug trafficking cartel leaders and reflects the agency's commitment to dismantling drug cartels and disrupting narcotics supply chains within and beyond Nigeria's borders.
