NDLEA Enhances Canine Unit Training with German Experts

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has enhanced its narcotics detection efforts by retraining its Canine Unit handlers and service dogs in Lagos. This training, conducted in collaboration with German Bundeskriminalamt (BKA) experts Andreas Roscher and Jacqueline Shüler, focused on improving detection and interception of narcotics.

Eleven personnel participated, including the Unit Commander, two veterinary doctors, and eight dog handlers, along with their service dogs. The training included advanced obedience, narcotics detection techniques, and real-life simulations at locations such as the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) and APM Terminals Apapa.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) emphasized the importance of canine teams in combating drug trafficking and acknowledged the need for more service dogs and personnel. He stated that plans are underway to address these challenges and that refresher training will be sustained annually.
