NDLEA Trains Over 100 Counselors on Rehab Standards

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has launched a nationwide capacity-building program for more than 100 counselors to standardize drug treatment and rehabilitation services across its commands. The training commenced at the NDLEA Academy in Jos, Plateau State, and is coordinated by the Agency’s Directorate of Counseling, Treatment and Rehabilitation (DCTR).

This initiative, described as the first major agency-driven training program for counselors in several years, aims to strengthen clinical skills and equip counselors with modern approaches to managing substance use disorders. NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), represented by ACGN Bashir Ibrahim, emphasized the importance of this initiative in revitalizing staff morale and enhancing the quality of treatment at rehabilitation facilities.

The training will ensure that drug-dependent individuals receive evidence-based interventions that meet national and international standards, harmonize practices across state commands, and improve data management for policymaking. Marwa assured continued investment in personnel development to tackle Nigeria's drug problem effectively.
