NDLEA Seizes N10.4bn Cannabis Shipment at Lagos Port

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted a massive shipment of Canadian loud, a high-potency cannabis strain, at Tincan Island Port in Lagos, with an estimated street value of N10.4 billion. The shipment weighed 4,173.5 kilograms and was transported from Toronto, Canada, on March 28, 2026, via Montreal and the Jakarta Express, eventually arriving in Lagos on May 9, 2026.

The seizure occurred on May 12, 2026, as part of a joint inspection with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies. This operation was the result of two months of meticulous intelligence gathering and surveillance, with close collaboration from international partners, including the UK Home Office, the US Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

NDLEA Chairman/CEO Brig Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa commended the efforts of the officers involved and emphasized the agency's commitment to combating transnational organized crime, following a recent raid in Lekki that recovered 2,326 kilograms of cannabis valued at N5.8 billion.
