NEC Endorses NASENI's Solar Irrigation Pumps to Boost Food Security

The National Economic Council (NEC) in Nigeria endorses the use of solar irrigation pumps produced by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to boost food security nationwide. The move aims to enhance agricultural productivity, reduce operational costs, increase yields, and improve livelihoods.

The NEC's decision, made during its 152nd monthly meeting in Abuja, supports the national rollout of the solar irrigation pumps ahead of the 2025 dry season farming. Vice President Kashim Shettima chairs the NEC meeting, emphasizing the importance of the solar irrigation pumps in enhancing Nigeria's competitiveness globally.

The council also mandates the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, to work on funding modalities for mass production and distribution of the pumps.
