NEC Meeting in Nigeria Focuses on Boosting Non-Oil Revenue and Economic Competitiveness

The National Economic Council (NEC) convened its first meeting in 2026 to deepen engagement with stakeholders and increase non-oil revenue as outlined in President Bola Tinubu's economic blueprint. The council, chaired by Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, emphasized the need to transition from oil to non-oil economy, focusing on manufacturing, exports, diversification, and private sector investments.

Key priorities include maintaining economic competitiveness, good governance, food availability, human capital development, and social protection. The NEC also commended the federal government's efforts to stimulate job creation and sustainable economic growth.

Various committees were established to address critical issues like food security and agriculture. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr.

Wale Edun, highlighted essential reforms to stabilize the economy and attract investments.
