NEC Prioritizes Food Security and Solar Pumps Over State Police Debate

The National Economic Council (NEC) avoided discussing the issue of State Police during its 152nd meeting, focusing instead on food security and solar-powered water pumps. Despite increasing insecurity and public support for State Police, the topic was notably absent from the agenda, disappointing expectations.

The NEC endorsed the nationwide rollout of solar-powered irrigation pumps developed by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to support farmers and reduce dependence on costly alternatives. Vice President Kashim Shettima highlighted the importance of agricultural innovation, emphasizing the need to address challenges in the sector.

The solar irrigation pumps are set to be deployed ahead of the 2025 dry season, offering a more affordable and efficient system for farmers.
