NEMA Promotes Disaster Risk Awareness in Abuja Schools

Mr. Zubaida Umar, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), visited Lea Primary School in Durumi, Abuja, to engage with pupils on disaster risk reduction awareness.

This visit, which took place on Thursday, is part of NEMA's ongoing efforts to promote disaster risk reduction education among young Nigerians and build a culture of safety from an early age. During the interactive session, Mr.

Umar emphasized the importance of basic safety habits and simple disaster mitigation measures that children can adopt at home and school. He taught pupils practical steps to reduce risks associated with common emergencies such as fire outbreaks and floods.

Mr. Umar encouraged the children to remain safety-conscious, be alert to potential dangers, and promptly report hazards to teachers and parents.

The session included a question-and-answer segment, allowing pupils to deepen their understanding of disaster management and the role they play in promoting safety within their communities. This initiative underscores NEMA's broader strategy to extend disaster risk reduction education beyond formal institutions to communities and households across the country.
