NEMA Launches School Club for Disaster Awareness in Akwa Ibom

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has launched a school club in Akwa Ibom State to enhance disaster risk reduction awareness among students. The initiative was announced by Mr. Offiong Yellow Duke, the disaster risk reduction officer at NEMA, during an inter-house sports event at the Community Secondary School in Obio Offot, Uyo, the state capital.

The primary goal of the club is to equip pupils with the knowledge and skills necessary to mitigate and respond to emergencies, thereby fostering a culture of safety and resilience within the community. Mr. Yellow Duke emphasized the importance of training young people in disaster risk reduction as a proactive approach to building resilience and reducing vulnerability to disasters.

He pledged support for the club and encouraged students to become ambassadors for disaster awareness in their communities.
