NEMA Activates Emergency Teams Amid Flood Threat to 15 States

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has activated its zonal directorates and operations offices across 15 states due to a high-risk flood alert issued by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA). The states affected include Imo, Cross River, Ebonyi, Benue, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Rivers, Edo, Kogi, Taraba, Delta, Bayelsa, Enugu, and Abia.

In a statement by Manzo Ezekiel, Head of the Press Unit, NEMA's Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, directed the agency's offices in these states to implement preparedness measures, coordinate with relevant authorities, and monitor vulnerable locations. Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to move to higher ground and pay special attention to vulnerable individuals during evacuations.

Umar also called on state and local governments to prepare emergency measures and stock essential relief materials. She emphasized the importance of early action to mitigate the impact of flooding on lives and infrastructure.
