Fubara Withdraws from APC Governorship Primaries in Rivers

Nentawe Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, announced his withdrawal from the APC governorship primaries despite having been cleared by the party's screening committee. He had fully participated in the nomination process and purchased the party's expression of interest form.

Fubara's decision to step down was framed as a sacrifice for peace, stability, and unity in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections. He emphasized that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as weakness or surrender, asserting his commitment to completing his tenure and serving the people of the state.

Meanwhile, former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike publicly mocked Fubara's withdrawal and endorsed Kingsley Chinda as the PDP governorship candidate. Wike claimed that political tensions in Rivers State were exacerbated by Fubara's actions and suggested that political maneuvering involved Fubara abandoning his second-term ambitions in exchange for avoiding impeachment threats against the state House of Assembly.
