APC Screens Fubara Amid Tensions for 2027 Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) committee, led by Nentaw Yilwatda, screened Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the 2027 governorship election on a date not specified, amidst tensions stemming from his predecessor Nyesom Wike's influence. Fubara reportedly received a cold reception during the screening process, which took place at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.

Wike, who has previously expressed his disapproval of Fubara's candidacy, has vowed not to allow him a second term. The screening is part of the APC's broader electoral strategy, with the party having expressed interest in nominating candidates by April 28, 2027.

The screening process for various gubernatorial candidates is set to conclude by May 10, with appeals expected on May 12 and 13. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the presidential and national assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while the governorship elections will take place on February 6, 2027.
