NEO Invests N90M in Engineering Innovation Competition

The Nigerian Engineering Olympiad (NEO) has announced a N90 million investment to foster indigenous engineering innovation, with 30 teams selected from 375 submissions across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. Each shortlisted team will receive a N3 million grant for prototype development and mentorship.

The initiative, which spans 10 months, aims to transform academic research into commercially viable enterprises and will culminate in a national competition in November 2025. The program seeks to address the gap between theoretical engineering education and practical industry application, with 12 successful teams advancing to a semi-final knockout round for a chance to share a N100 million seed fund at the grand final.

Key figures, including Yetund Taiwo and Engr Felix Omatsola Ogb, emphasized the importance of this initiative in reducing brain drain and creating career pathways for young engineers. The program is designed to position Nigeria as an engineering innovation hub, identifying and nurturing talent nationwide.
