30 Teams Selected for Nigerian Engineering Olympiad Finals

The Nigerian Engineering Olympiad has selected 30 standout innovation teams from a pool of 375 submissions to advance to the national competition phase, marking a significant milestone in the initiative launched in November 2025. These teams, representing various higher institutions across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones, will receive N3 million each for prototype development, totaling an investment of N90 million aimed at fostering local innovation.

The initiative addresses the urgent need for youth engagement in engineering, as they constitute 70% of Nigeria's population, with unemployment exceeding 30%. The selected teams will undergo mentorship and business development training, with the goal of producing 150 engineering prototypes and numerous startups over the next three years.

The competition emphasizes the importance of practical engineering skills and aims to reduce brain drain by providing clear career pathways in STEM fields. The final event will feature a knockout round to determine four finalist teams competing for a share of N100 million in seed funding.
