Massive Flood Hits Nepal's Rasuwa District, Causes Damage

On Wednesday, a massive flood swept through Nepal's northern Rasuwa district, leading to extensive damage to roads and power infrastructure. Nepal Police spokesman Abi Narayan Kafle reported that the flood's impact is significant, with many settlements potentially affected.

Prime Minister Balendra Shah held an emergency meeting with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority to evaluate the situation. He stated that necessary steps are being coordinated with medical teams, scouts, and the Red Cross.

The Nepal Army has deployed helicopters and disaster response personnel to the area, and efforts to assess the damage are ongoing. The Nepal Electricity Authority reported that approximately 430 megawatts of production capacity, including from hydropower and solar facilities, has been compromised, disrupting electricity supply.

Several highways have also been closed due to the flooding. Monsoon rains, which occur from June to September, frequently cause deadly floods and landslides in South Asia, with climate change exacerbating these extreme weather events.
