UK Deploys Team to Nepal After Devastating Floods

The United Kingdom has dispatched a Rapid Deployment Team to Nepal to aid British nationals and their families affected by severe floods that occurred on August 26, 2026, due to a sudden surge in the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa district. The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) announced that the team would arrive in Kathmandu on Saturday to enhance consular operations and collaborate with local authorities.

The flooding has led to significant destruction of infrastructure, including homes, roads, and hydropower facilities. Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband stated that the deployment is a response to the scale of the emergency, emphasizing the safety of British nationals as a priority.

The team will assist with airport coordination, support families inquiring about missing relatives, and work closely with the Nepali authorities. Additionally, the UK is providing a £5 million humanitarian package to support Nepal's response efforts, which includes interventions from the UN, Red Cross, and NGOs.
