Nepal's Final Mourning Day Amid Ongoing Rescue Efforts

Nepal has declared a final mourning day as the government and rescue teams focus on ongoing operations following a catastrophic flood that occurred on August 26. The flood was triggered by a glacier breaking off, which sent a massive wall of mud and rock into a river along the Himalayan border between Nepal and China's Tibet region.

The Nepal Home Ministry has instructed that national flags be flown at half-mast at government offices and missions abroad. Army spokesperson Raja Ram Basnet reported that rescue efforts are concentrated on hydropower stations, where survivors may still be trapped.

In recent days, search teams have successfully rescued four individuals, including a Chinese national from a tunnel, two hydropower workers, and a Nepali woman from a buried house. Currently, it is estimated that roughly 900 workers remain missing across 12 hydropower projects, with about 500 believed to be trapped in tunnels.
