NERC Reports Over 187,000 Electricity Customers Metered in Two Months

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) revealed that power distribution companies (DISCOs) metered 187,765 new customers in September and October, marking progress in closing the country's meter gap. The metering rate increased significantly to 56.07%, with Abuja Disco, Eko Disco, Ikeja Disco, and Ibadan Disco showing improvements.

Abuja contributed 19,118 meters, Aba 18,906, Ikeja 17,046, and Ibadan 15,739. Despite the positive trend, some DISCOs still have meter rates below 50%, indicating the need for accelerated meter rollout to bridge the gap.
