Nigerians Paid More for Electricity Despite Poor Supply - NERC Report Reveals

According to a report by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Nigerians paid a total of N1.13 trillion to electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) in the second and third quarters of 2025, despite facing poor electricity supply and frequent outages. The report revealed an overall increase of 4.63% in revenue collection efficiency over the six-month period, with some DISCOs showing improved collection efficiency.

Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company achieved a 100% collection efficiency, while Kaduna DISCO recorded the steepest decline. The power sector faced challenges such as gas supply shortages and unpaid debts, leading to reduced power generation.
