NESREA Investigates Chemical Spill on Kaduna-Abuja Road

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has commenced an investigation into a suspected chemical spill on the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway, which occurred after a truck accident left a white, foamy substance at the scene. The statement, signed by Mrs.

Nwamaka Ejiofor, the Assistant Director (Press), indicated that a team from the Kaduna State Field Office, led by State Coordinator Mr. Hena Emmanuel, visited the site to begin the investigation.

The team met with Assistant Commissioner of Police Sani Zubairu, the Federal Road Safety Corps commander, and a community leader. Preliminary findings suggested that a heavy-duty truck was involved in the accident, leading to the spillage of its contents.

NESREA has gathered information from security agencies, relevant officials, and residents to aid the investigation. Samples of the foamy substance, surrounding soil, and water from a nearby stream have been collected for laboratory analysis to assess their composition and potential environmental impact.

NESREA has advised the public to avoid contact with the foamy substance, water, and surrounding soil until the investigation is completed.
