NESREA Closes Quarry After 10-Year-Old's Death

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has shut down the Dai Jin Jia Quarry located in Aco Village, Airport Road, Abuja, after the tragic death of a 10-year-old boy during a blasting operation on February 27, 2026. Mr.

Elijah Udofia, speaking on behalf of NESREA's Director General, Prof. Innoc Barikor, stated that the quarry had previously been sealed due to non-compliance with environmental standards.

Despite warnings, the facility continued operations, violating national regulations that prioritize community safety. Preliminary investigations revealed that the quarry lacked proper documentation for its blasting operations and failed to adhere to safety protocols, including a malfunctioning alarm system.

Prof. Barikor emphasized the importance of strict compliance with environmental regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future and assured the public that responsible parties would be held accountable.
