NESREA Seals Bond Chemicals for Environmental Violations

On February 18, 2026, the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) sealed Bond Chemicals Industries located in Oyo State following public complaints regarding environmental violations. An inspection conducted by NESREA's South West Zonal Office revealed that the facility did not have a functioning effluent treatment plant and was discharging untreated wastewater, which emitted an offensive odor and contravened environmental regulations.

The agency had previously notified the facility to install and operate an effluent treatment system in compliance with regulatory requirements, including obtaining necessary permits. However, the facility failed to comply with these directives.

Consequently, NESREA exercised its statutory mandate to seal the facility to prevent further environmental degradation and safeguard public health. Prof.

Innoc Barikor, the Director General of NESREA, emphasized the necessity for industries to fully comply with environmental regulations, including the installation and operation of proper pollution control equipment. The agency plans to intensify its monitoring and enforcement activities nationwide.
