New Coatings Plant Launched to Boost Local Content

The Solewant Specialty Protective Coatings and Paints Limited (SSPC & Paints) manufacturing plant was commissioned at the Solewant Group Industrial Park in Alode-Eleme, Rivers State. The event was attended by key figures including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.

Both officials commended Solewant Group for its role in advancing indigenous manufacturing within Nigeria's oil and gas value chain. Lokpobiri highlighted the plant as a demonstration of local content, technology adoption, and African industrial competitiveness.

The facility produces decorative paints, protective coatings, and specialty coating systems for various industrial applications. Lokpobiri noted the growth of local service providers since the enactment of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act (NOGICD) and expressed optimism about the plant's ability to service not only Nigeria but the entire African continent.

He reaffirmed government support for indigenous companies addressing energy sector challenges.
