New Kaduna Petroleum College to Cut Overseas Scholarship Costs

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has announced the establishment of a new petroleum college in Kaduna, which is expected to significantly reduce the costs associated with its overseas scholarship program. Mr. Sirajo Abdullahi Fari, Deputy Manager of Services, stated that the college will run postgraduate programs in petroleum technology and management, aiming to strengthen local expertise and reduce reliance on external training. The college will also provide local academic mentorship and exposure to institutions in the United Kingdom, including the University of Strathclyde, Robert Gordon University, and the University of Portsmouth. The selection process for the 2026/2027 overseas scholarship scheme will involve screening candidates, with 424 candidates, including 266 MSc and PhD candidates, being assessed. The selection aims to reflect federal character principles and ensure equitable representation across states. Prof. Abubakar Musa Umar will oversee the scrutiny of candidates' credentials to ensure a credible selection based on strict criteria.
