PTDF Enhances Nigeria's Oil and Gas Skills Through Scholarships

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has reiterated its commitment to addressing challenges in Nigeria's oil and gas sector by conducting interviews for its postgraduate overseas scholarship scheme. Mr.

Tajudeen Ibiyey, the team lead for the exercise, highlighted that the program is central to developing Nigeria's oil and gas capabilities. PTDF has significantly reduced the skill gap in the sector over the years.

The selection process for the scholarship is merit-based and transparent, beginning with public advertisements followed by a computer-based screening and an academic review panel. Out of 38,000 applications received nationwide, only 6,000 candidates were shortlisted, with 296 candidates invited for interviews in Ibadan.

Alhaji Abdulwasiu Bawa Allah, a member of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) representing Lagos State, monitored the exercise to ensure fairness. The interviews were conducted across geopolitical zones in Nigeria, ensuring equal opportunity for all shortlisted applicants.

The PTDF aims to sponsor Nigerian MSc and PhD programs at top universities in Europe and Asia to build capacity in the country's energy sector.
