New Champions Crowned at Osun National Table Tennis Tournament

The Osun National Table Tennis Tournament concluded at the newly built Idera Multi-Purpose Hall in Otan Ayegbaju, Osun State, with Rilwan Akanbi and Bisola Asaju emerging as champions in the men's and women's singles categories, respectively. Akanbi defeated the defending champion Abdulbasit Abdulfatai in the semi-finals with a score of 4-2 before claiming the title.

Asaju triumphed over Favour Ojo, also with a score of 4-2, marking a significant shift in the women's game following the early exit of reigning champion Hope Udoaka in the round of 16. In the junior category, Chineny Okafor won the U15 final against Deborah Festu, who earned praise for her courageous performance throughout the tournament.

The event, supported by the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation and the Michael Felicia Alabi Foundation, attracted over 200 players and featured a prize pool of 5 million Naira, an increase from the previous year's 3.5 million. The closing ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Tund Popoola, who commended the athletes and emphasized the importance of such tournaments for national team selection.
