Udoaka, Aiyelabegan Shocked in Osun Table Tennis Tournament

At the Michael Felicia Alabi Memorial Table Tennis Tournament held on Thursday, April 6, 2026, in Otan Ayegbaju, Osun State, defending women's singles champion Hope Udoaka suffered a shocking defeat against unseeded Khadijat Okanlawon in the round of 16. Udoaka, who lifted the title in 2025, lost in a five-set thriller with scores of 2-3 (11-7, 7-11, 9-11, 11-5, 6-11).

The tournament also saw junior sensation Fumilayo Ojo dispatch second seed Sukurat Aiyelabegan in straight sets, 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-4), ensuring a new women's singles champion this year. Meanwhile, in the men's draw, defending champion Abdulbasit Abdulfatai from Kwara survived a stern test against veteran David Fayel, edging out a 3-2 victory.

The tournament, organized by the Osun State Table Tennis Association with support from the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation and the Michael Felicia Alabi Foundation, features 200 players competing for a prize pool of 5 million naira, an increase from last year's 3.5 million naira.
