Kwara Fire Service Saves Family from Blaze in Ilorin

In the early hours of Tuesday, a couple and their newborn baby narrowly escaped death when a fire ravaged their apartment in Oloje Phase 2, Ilorin, Kwara State. Community members rescued the family from their severely affected room-and-parlour self-contained apartment.
The Kwara State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued by Public Relations Officer Hassan Adekunle, stating they received a distress call at 2:41am on Lawyer Lambo Street, Ilorin West Local Government Area. The fire affected two four-bedroom flats and the self-contained apartment, destroying one vehicle and damaging a vulcanising workshop.
Preliminary findings indicated the fire was caused by the collapse of a concrete pole supporting a 33kV electricity transmission line, which fell on a vehicle and ignited its tyre. The fire service contacted the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company to shut down electricity in the area for safety.
Chief Fire Officer Alabi Muha commented on the incident, emphasizing the dangers posed by the fallen transmission line.
