NGF and NSDC Partner to Drive Sugar Industry Expansion in Nigeria

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and the Nation Sugar Development Council (NSDC) have partnered to drive the expansion of the sugar industry in Nigeria. The collaboration aims to prioritize sugar key product development to accelerate industrial growth across states in the country.

The NGF has accepted proposals, including prioritizing sugar projects to benefit stakeholders within and outside Nigeria. The NSDC and NGF will work together to support states in preparing investors for sugar projects, facilitating land access, infrastructure provision, and incentive frameworks.

The NSDC CEO, Mr. Kamar Bakrin, highlighted the economic potential of the Nigerian sugar industry, estimated to be worth $2 billion, with opportunities for job creation and rural development.

Eleven states, including Oyo, Kwara, Niger, and others, have been identified as suitable for large-scale sugar cane cultivation. The project aims to empower host communities, promote inclusive development, and create employment opportunities.
