NGF Launches Leadership Academy, Supports Key Reforms

The Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) unveiled a new leadership academy and expressed support for federal fiscal, education, and security reforms during their first meeting of 2026, held in Abuja. The forum, chaired by Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, reaffirmed its commitment to partner with the federal government to effectively implement policies aimed at strengthening state capacities and improving service delivery.

The governors received presentations from Taiwo Oyekunle, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education. Discussions included ongoing tax reforms, expanding access to quality education, and enhancing basic and secondary education infrastructure.

The academy will serve as a flagship platform for subnational leadership development, integrating executive capacity building and research support across the 36 states. The forum also noted the importance of addressing agricultural productivity and food security through state-level measures and proactive policy frameworks.
