NGO Advocates for Increased Nutrition Funding in Adamawa

The Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS SUNN) has urged for increased budgetary allocations and timely releases of nutritional funds in Adamawa State. During an interaction session with journalists in Yola, Ridwan Awosoya, the program manager, highlighted the critical public health challenge posed by malnutrition, which affects child growth and survival.

Recent evidence indicates that malnutrition rates in the state are alarmingly high, with 48.6% of children stunted and 32.5% underweight. The NGO emphasized the need for the government to prioritize nutrition by increasing budget allocations across relevant sectors, including health, agriculture, education, water, sanitation, and social protection.

They also called for the extension of paid maternity leave to three to six months in the public sector and the strengthening of integrated nutrition within primary healthcare systems. The organization aims to engage policymakers and monitor service delivery to improve household practices and community-led solutions for better nutrition outcomes.
