Empowering Women Leaders to Combat Gender-Based Violence

The Gender Awareness Trust (GAT) conducted a two-day training workshop in Katsina State, aimed at empowering Christian women leaders to address gender-based violence (GBV) within their communities. The workshop, which commenced on a Monday in Katsina metropolis, brought together women leaders, human rights defenders, and youth representatives from the Batagarawa Local Government Area.

Dr. Lydia Umar, the Executive Director of GAT, emphasized the need for strengthened knowledge and leadership skills to effectively combat GBV, which poses significant social and health challenges.

The training aimed to deepen participants' understanding of the root causes of GBV and improve community advocacy skills. Key objectives included enhancing community response mechanisms and promoting creative actions to support survivors.

Participants were urged to identify and report harmful norms while ensuring the dignity and accountability of survivors within their communities.
