NGX Lists 14% of N1.51 Trillion Commercial Paper Market

Between January and September 2026, Nigeria raised N1.51 trillion through commercial papers, with only N216.1 billion, or about 14 percent, listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX). This figure came from 131 commercial paper series by 60 issuers.
The third quarter alone saw N506.4 billion raised, highlighting the importance of commercial papers for short-term financing. NGX entered the commercial paper market on December 3, 2025, after receiving approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The first major transaction occurred in February 2026 when Dangote Cement Plc listed its Series 1 and Series 2 commercial papers valued at N119.87 billion. Other companies that have listed papers include Coleman Technical Industries Limited, MeCure Industries Plc, and NGN Gram Limited.
Jude Chiemeka, CEO of NGX, stated that the Exchange aims to enhance market visibility and attract more issuers. Abimbola Babalola, NGX’s Head of Trading and Products, emphasized the need to sustain issuance and expand listings.
