NGX Market Wrap 6 Oct 2026 | Plus234Feed

The Nigerian Exchange closed marginally lower on Tuesday, with the All-Share Index declining 0.24% to 249,949.66 points, despite robust trading activity across 37,545 deals worth ₦32.1 billion. While broad-based weakness emerged in financial and consumer stocks, significant outperformance in agriculture and specialty plays signalled investor appetite for value rotation.
The NGX ended a mixed session on Tuesday, with the All-Share Index shedding 60.66 points to settle at 249,949.66 points—a modest 0.24% decline that belies the underlying volatility. Trading remained healthy, with total volume reaching 501.6 million shares across ₦32.1 billion in deal value, suggesting continued market participation despite the negative close.
Top performer TAJSUKS1 surged 33.28% (₦23.97) to ₦95.99, commanding attention despite modest volume, while agricultural plays LIVESTOCK and TRIPPLEG gained 9.74% and 9.77% respectively—indicating investor conviction in the sector. Financial services also showed resilience, with NPFMCRFBK advancing 9.52% (₦0.40) and WAPIC climbing 7.69% (₦0.17), though these gains were insufficient to offset broader losses.
The decline was driven by significant weakness in financial and consumer segments. CMFC led declines, dropping 9.88% (₦0.40) to ₦3.65, while transport play ABCTRANS fell 9.70% (₦0.65). Commodity-linked FTNCOCOA tumbled 9.07% (₦0.76), and fintech heavyweight VFDGROUP slipped 6.34% (₦0.85), signalling profit-taking in previously strong positions.
Liquidity concentrated in blue-chips: ACCESSCORP dominated with 191.5 million shares traded, followed by ZENITHBANK and UBA. Market capitalisation stood at ₦162.3 trillion, reflecting overall stability despite the day's negative tone.
Investors should monitor whether Wednesday's session brings consolidation or fresh sectoral rotation toward undervalued plays.
