The Nigerian Exchange closed marginally higher on Wednesday, with the All-Share Index rising 0.15 percent to 247,650.39 points despite modest trading activity. Gainers led losers, though real estate and financial stocks faced notable pressure.

The NGX extended its sideways momentum on Wednesday as the All-Share Index inched up 0.15 percent, closing at 247,650.39 points. While the session lacked decisive directional movement, the composition of gains and losses reveals important shifts in investor sentiment across key sectors.

Technology and specialty stocks dominated the gainers' list, with AUSTINLAZ surging ₦0.22 to ₦2.42, ETRANZACT climbing ₦1.40 to ₦15.75, and LIVESTOCK advancing ₦1.50 to ₦16.95. These strong performances in mid-cap and small-cap stocks suggest retail investors remain active in speculative segments, even as larger-cap exposure consolidates.

The real estate sector proved vulnerable, however. UPDCREIT led losers with a sharp 9.96 percent decline, dropping ₦2.60 to ₦23.50, while UPDC fell 6.02 percent. This weakness likely reflects sector-wide concerns around financing costs or property valuations, though specific catalysts remain unclear from price action alone.

Accessbank's dominant trade volume of nearly 97 million shares underscores the crucial role mega-cap stocks play in market liquidity. Combined with LIVESTOCK's elevated turnover of 13.26 million shares, this suggests bifurcated trading: large-cap stability and small-cap volatility coexisting.

At ₦26.83 billion in daily value traded across 29,250 deals, activity remained moderate. Market capitalization held steady near ₦160.8 trillion, reflecting a market consolidating gains rather than breaking out.

Investors should watch whether real estate weakness spreads to financials in the next session.
