NGX Market Wrap 15 Oct 2026 | ASI Gains 0.14%

The Nigerian Exchange closed marginally higher on Thursday, with the All-Share Index advancing 0.14% to 247,995.16 points as buying interest in smaller-cap stocks offset modest selling pressure in blue chips. Market activity remained steady with 28,652 deals and ₦13.7 billion in traded value, though the top five most-traded stocks showed mixed directional bias.

The NGX closed on a positive note Thursday, with the All-Share Index rising 0.14% to 247,995.16 points, suggesting cautious optimism despite a largely sideways session. The modest gain reflects a market where breadth favoured gainers, with smaller capitalisation stocks driving momentum while heavier blue-chip positions provided resistance.

Top gainers were clustered in the junior segment, where MULTITREX and ZICHIS both surged 10.00%, adding ₦0.05 and ₦1.63 to their respective share prices. AUSTINLAZ, CWG, and OMATEK followed with gains between 9.77% and 9.92%, indicating aggressive positioning in lower-priced equities. This pattern suggests retail and tactical investors hunting for recovery plays rather than fundamental strength in the broader market.

Conversely, NASCON led declines, falling 9.48% to ₦171.00 as investors trimmed positions in the consumer staples play, reflecting profit-taking or sector rotation concerns. GUINEAINS, THOMASWY, DAARCOMM, and ELLAHLAKES followed with losses ranging from 5.03% to 9.00%, suggesting selective weakness rather than panic selling.

Market depth was evidenced by 268.4 million shares traded across deals worth ₦13.7 billion. Blue-chip liquidity remained intact: UBA, GTCO, and ACCESSCORP dominated volume rankings, though their lateral price action indicates consolidation rather than directional conviction.

Retail investors should monitor whether Friday's session extends Thursday's junior-stock outperformance or sees blue-chip recovery reassert dominance.
