NHRC Urges FG to Prosecute Killers, End Violence

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), led by Executive Secretary Tony Ojukwu, has called for an urgent response from the federal government to halt the ongoing wave of killings across Nigeria, particularly highlighting recent attacks in Plateau State. Ojukwu condemned the senseless violence, describing it as deeply disturbing and indicative of a troubling pattern of attacks affecting innocent citizens in various states, including Benue, Kaduna, and Zamfara.

He expressed condolences to the families of victims and stressed the government's responsibility to protect the right to life. Ojukwu insisted that beyond condemnation, concrete steps must be taken to end the violence and ensure accountability for the perpetrators.

He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and properties in affected communities and called for thorough investigations and swift prosecutions. The NHRC also highlighted the importance of addressing root causes of violence, such as poverty and hate speech, warning that failure to do so could lead to further instability.
