NHRC Advocates for Enhanced Human Rights Collaboration

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), represented by Executive Secretary Toni Ojukwu, emphasized the need for stronger inter-agency collaboration among government institutions and civil society organizations to ensure the effective implementation of Nigeria's National Action Plan (NAP) for the promotion and protection of human rights from 2024 to 2028. This call was made during a state consultative meeting held at the Federal Secretariat in Ibadan, Oyo State, where Ojukwu noted that the success of the action plan largely depends on synergy among ministries, departments, and agencies.

The NAP, developed in line with the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action from the 1993 World Conference on Human Rights, aims to address existing gaps and respond to emerging challenges in human rights. Ojukwu highlighted the importance of cooperation among stakeholders to uphold principles of human dignity and justice.

The meeting also aimed to clarify roles and responsibilities across sectors to strengthen monitoring and reporting mechanisms.
