Human Rights Commission Advocates Collaboration Against Extremism

The National Human Rights Commission is seeking enhanced collaboration to address violent extremism in Nigeria. At a summit held in Abuja, Charl Ogba, representing the Director of Legal Services, and Rabi Anwar, among other stakeholders, discussed the persistent security challenges undermining human dignity and economic progress.

Ojukwu highlighted the severe impact of violent extremism and banditry, which has resulted in thousands of lives lost and millions displaced, disrupting education and healthcare. He cited recent cases of abductions and sexual violence, particularly affecting women and children.

Emmanuel Johnni emphasized the need for personal responsibility and behavior change to tackle insecurity and promote national development. He commended President Bola Tinubu's approval for establishing state police as a strategic step to address security challenges at the grassroots level.

The summit called for greater investment in youth development and skill acquisition programs to reduce vulnerability to crime and extremism, underscoring the necessity of collective efforts among government, civil society, and citizens to build peace and security in Nigeria.
