Maduro Shares Photos from US Detention, Faces Charges

Former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro posted photographs from a US detention center, marking the first images of him since his detention. The photos, timestamped June 25, 2026, show Maduro in a grey tracksuit, and he sent a message to his grandchildren and supporters expressing resilience.

Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were seized by US special forces in January and are facing charges of drug and firearm possession, which they deny. Their trial is scheduled to begin on June 1, 2027, as confirmed by federal judge Alvin Hellerstein, with a pre-trial hearing set for November 17.

While in custody, Maduro reportedly has no internet access but can communicate with family and lawyers for a limited time each month. The publication of his message coincided with Delcy Rodriguez's announcement of a "historic" oil agreement with the United States, allowing American companies to operate in Venezuela.
