Tinubu Approves National Cancer Institute Construction

Prof. Usman Malami Aliyu, the Director General of the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the design, construction, furnishing, equipping, supervision, and commissioning of a National Cancer Institute. This approval, announced in a press release in Abuja, reflects the Tinubu-led government's commitment to the health and well-being of Nigerians.

Prof. Malami stated that the institute would position Nigeria as a leader in cancer care and research in Africa and globally. He highlighted that the project would significantly reduce medical tourism, which costs Nigeria millions annually, as many citizens seek advanced cancer treatment abroad.

The institute is expected to attract oncology experts, enhance cancer research, and serve as a training hub for cancer care professionals across Africa. Prof. Malami emphasized that this initiative, along with the recent upgrades of cancer centers in Kastina, Benin, and Enugu, demonstrates the government's dedication to improving healthcare standards in Nigeria.
