Nigeria to Build West Africa's Largest Cancer Institute

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the construction of a new headquarters for the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), marking a significant step in Nigeria's fight against cancer. This initiative is part of the President's Renewed Hope Agenda in the health sector and aims to establish the largest and best-equipped cancer institute in West Africa.

The new NICRAT headquarters will serve as a national platform for comprehensive cancer control, integrating prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and research. The project is designed to address the pressing public health challenges associated with cancer in Nigeria, including late diagnosis and limited access to specialized care.

By investing in this infrastructure, the Tinubu administration seeks to strengthen healthcare systems, enhance the capacity of cancer care professionals, and promote innovation in cancer treatment and research. This approval underscores the government's commitment to prioritizing cancer control as a national health issue.
