NiDCOM Launches Diaspora Investment Initiative for 2026

The Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), chaired by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, announced a strategic shift to deepen diaspora engagement and promote investments beyond remittances. This initiative was unveiled during a press conference in Abuja, highlighting the significance of the upcoming Nigeria Diaspora Economic Conference scheduled for August 13-15, 2026, in Toronto, Canada.

Dabiri-Erewa noted that Nigerians abroad contribute approximately $20 billion annually in remittances, which the commission aims to leverage for greater economic impact. The conference will bring together diaspora professionals, investors, and government stakeholders, featuring special visa facilitation processes arranged with the Canadian government.

The event will focus on high-impact sectors such as fintech, agriculture, and healthcare, facilitating business-to-business engagements and signing memoranda of understanding to promote job creation and technology transfer. The conference will coincide with a week-long showcase of Nigerian culture, including the Flavour Nigeria Festival, marking a significant milestone in diaspora engagement.
