NIDO Africa Demands Release of 42 Nigerians Detained in Mozambique

NIDO Africa, represented by its chairman Professor Jude Osakw, has condemned the detention of 42 Nigerian citizens currently held in Mozambique without formal charges. Professor Osakw described the continued detention as a gross violation of fundamental human rights and emphasized that no individual should be held without being informed of the reasons for their detention.

He expressed concern over the Mozambican authorities' actions, which he characterized as a deliberate act of injustice, suggesting that the arrests were strategically designed to create a false impression of legitimacy while targeting Nigerians. The detainees, who hold valid permits for their presence in Mozambique, are reportedly suffering from health issues while in custody, and have been denied access to legal representation and medical care.

NIDO Africa has called on the Mozambican authorities to provide necessary medical attention and has urged the Nigerian embassy in Mozambique, led by Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, to take immediate action to ensure the welfare and rights of the detained Nigerians are protected.
