Niger Delta Youth Plan Protest Over N12.87bn Contract

The Niger Delta Youth Parliament, led by Rt. Hon. Daniel Ifon Samuel, has announced plans for a peaceful protest scheduled for April 20, 2026, across four cities: Uyo, Warri, Port Harcourt, and Abuja.

This action is in response to growing frustrations among the youth in the Niger Delta region regarding a pipeline surveillance contract reportedly worth N12.87 billion. The group alleges that the contract, which has been managed by a limited number of individuals for decades, has not resulted in significant infrastructural development or job creation for the local youth.

They express concerns that the concentration of such contracts in the hands of a few excludes capable youth from participating in economic opportunities, exacerbating local hardships and disrupting oil refining activities. The parliament has called for a review of the surveillance framework by the federal government to ensure broader participation and inclusivity.

They emphasize that the protest will be conducted peacefully and in accordance with the law, seeking cooperation from security agencies.
