Niger Delta Speaker Rejects Protest Over Pipeline Contract

Ifon Daniel Samuel, the Speaker of the Niger Delta Youth Parliament, publicly dissociated himself from a proposed protest linked to a pipeline surveillance contract in Nigeria. In a statement released on Thursday, he clarified that his name was wrongfully associated with a call for demonstrations across Uyo, Warri, Port Harcourt, and Abuja on April 20, 2026.

He emphasized that he had not authorized or consented to any statements or endorsements regarding the protest. Ifon expressed concern over the potential marginalization surrounding the multi-billion naira contract and stressed the importance of peaceful protests as a democratic right, provided they follow proper consultation and transparency.

He urged the youth in the Niger Delta to remain calm and vigilant, advocating for constructive dialogue and engagement rather than disruption of the current pipeline surveillance arrangements, which he noted have already benefited many people in the region.
