Nigeria and Angola Sign Visa-Exemption Agreement

On February 15, 2026, Nigeria and Angola formalized a diplomatic passport visa-exemption agreement during the 39th ordinary session of the African Union held in Addis Ababa. The agreement, signed by Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and Angola's Minister of International Relations, Tete António, aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and facilitate official exchanges between the two nations.

This long-overdue pact is designed to remove administrative barriers to official travel, allowing government officials from both countries to engage freely without visa requirements. The agreement is expected to promote smoother exchanges, deeper cooperation, and broader opportunities for joint initiatives.

Tete António expressed gratitude to Nigeria for its historical support during Angola's independence struggle, describing the new agreement as a practical step to consolidate their historical relationship and expand cooperation.
