Nigeria and Murdoch University Enhance Mining Skills Pact

On 14 September 2026, Nigeria and Murdoch University in Western Australia announced a deepened partnership aimed at enhancing knowledge transfer and professional training in the solid minerals sector. This initiative follows strategic discussions between a Nigerian delegation, led by Dele Alake, the representative of the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, and Engr Obadiah Nkom, Director-General of the Mining Cadastre Office, with Professor Dee O’Connor, Dean of the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at the university.

The talks focused on expanding the third phase of the Nigeria-Australia Resource Industry Collaboration and Capacity Building Programme, which has already trained two cohorts of 11 Nigerian officials each since its inception in June 2025. The new phase aims to provide stronger industry exposure, practical engagements, and training to help Nigerian mining professionals identify and develop commercially viable opportunities.

O’Connor reaffirmed the university's commitment to supporting Nigeria's development of a competitive resources sector.
