Nigeria's Aviation Sector at 40% Digital Efficiency

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has reported that Nigeria's aviation industry is currently functioning at just 40% efficiency in its digitalization initiatives. Sakiru Balogun, Director of Membership Affairs at ICAN, emphasized the need for faster adoption of technology to enhance operational efficiency and reduce corruption.

He noted that the sector still relies heavily on manual cash-based transactions, which create opportunities for malpractice. Balogun highlighted that a fully digitalized system could help close loopholes and improve service delivery.

He pointed out that low digital literacy among Nigerians is a significant barrier to adopting these technologies. Ayodel Olatiregun, Chairman of the ICAN Aviation Chapter, remarked on the positive developments such as electronic toll payments and online transaction systems, which are steps towards broader digital transformation.

Dr. Comfort Eyitayo, a former ICAN president, stressed that digitalization is essential for modern aviation operations, requiring accuracy and strong risk management.
