Clerics Slam Tinubu for UK Trip Amid Borno Bombings

Nigerian clergymen have strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his trip to the United Kingdom, which coincided with a deadly bombing in Maiduguri, Borno State, that resulted in at least 23 fatalities. The president's visit, which took place on Tuesday, was his first state visit to the UK in nearly four decades and included his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, and top government officials.

The timing of the trip drew ire from the Igbo Minister Coalition, with Rev. Toni Uzo Anthoni describing it as poorly timed and deeply troubling. The group expressed that Tinubu's presence abroad while violence erupted at home sends a wrong message, accusing him of focusing on international engagements instead of addressing urgent security challenges.

They emphasized that a leader should be present during a national crisis and criticized the government's inability to protect its citizens, linking the ongoing violence in Borno and Osun states to a broader failure of leadership.
